Our history starts in a foreign land. Antonio Piero and his cousin, Luca Niccolo, first started off selling their homemade food in the small towns of Italy. Realizing they had become well known, in 1920 they opened the door to their very first restaurant, Cucina Casalinga, in Positano, Campania. Their they claimed much success and began looking towards America. They opened The Restaurant in 1925, and San Diego became their home immediately. Few people knew the original owners and they have carried on the legacy left behind to continue giving what The Restaurant allows people to experience.

Where are we now? We are still at our original restaurant in San Diego right next to Petco park. With such great views and amazing food, success has pushed us to venture to new locations. The original owners were specialists in Italian cuisine. They, however, decide to think more progressively about their food, and upon looking at America, their inspiration came from the ever-changing American culture. Yet their roots never changed! They pushed for only using home grown and local products just like they did in Italy.

When people think of The Restaurant they think of great chefs. One of the most inspiring stories of our rich history that continues till this day, is that of our chefs. Each chef we employ goes through intensive culinary training. They start in Italy where the original ideas of Cucina Casalinga become rooted. Then they're off to the most prestigious culinary institute in America. Truly, The Restaurant has the best chefs.
